Lena Belle Tartar (1884-1984), the daughter of Oregon pioneers, was born in Pedee, Oregon, and died in Corvallis. She was educated at Oregon State University and the American Conservatory of Music in Chicago. She taught school for eight years before focusing on music, later serving as a vocal instructor at Salem High School from 1918-1949.
